Cyclist on a country road between olive trees in Salento, Puglia

Self-guided bike tours in Salento: your route, our Trek bikes, from Lecce, San Foca or Calimera

No fixed itineraries and no group to keep up with. You tell me how far you want to ride, how long you have and what you want to see. I design the route with you, you get the GPX and a roadbook with the stops worth making, you pick up a Trek bike with the full kit and ride at your own pace. If anything happens on the road, I'm one phone call away. Half day, full day or several days.

Route designed with you, not off the shelf

GPX + roadbook on your phone, briefing at pickup

Trek bike and full kit included

Phone support for the whole ride

How a self-guided SalentoBike tour works

  1. 1

    Tell me about you

Date, number of people, fitness level, the places or landscapes you're curious about, how many hours you want to spend on the bike.

  2. 2

    I design the route

Distance, stops, timing, where to eat, where to swim, which roads are empty at that hour. You get the GPX track and a short roadbook on WhatsApp before you arrive, and we adjust it until it's yours.

  3. 3

You pick up the bike and ride

Trek bike fitted to your size, ten-minute briefing on the route and the bike, phone holder and kit already on board, at one of the three free pickup points or delivered to you for a distance-based fee. You ride at your pace; if you need me during the day, you call me.

More than a rental

A bike rental gives you a bike. A self-guided tour gives you a day that works: a route built around what you like and how much you ride, tested by me on those exact roads, the stops that are worth it (a swim, a village, a good lunch) marked on the map with notes, a briefing before you leave, and someone who knows every road in Salento at the other end of the phone if you puncture, get tired or change your mind halfway.

Who designs your route

Eugenio of SalentoBike with a gravel bike on a country road in Salento

I'm Eugenio. I live in Calimera, in the heart of the Grecìa Salentina, and I run SalentoBike in Lecce. I've ridden and walked the Salento from end to end: the two coasts, the countryside between them and the whole Via Francigena in Puglia. Every route I send you is one I've ridden myself, with the roads that are empty at 9 in the morning, the beach where the sea is calm for a swim and the trattoria worth the detour. You ride on your own, at your own pace, with my route, my notes and my phone number.

Frequently asked questions about self-guided bike tours in Salento

Is someone riding with us?
No. All tours on this page are self-guided: you ride on your own with a route designed for you, the GPX on your phone, a roadbook and my phone number for the whole day. If you'd like the history of Lecce or Otranto told by a professional, on request I can put you in touch with a licensed tour guide for a visit on foot; you book and pay the guide directly.
How long is a half-day tour?
Up to about 4 hours and typically 25–30 km, with time to stop, look, taste and swim. A full day is up to about 8 hours and typically 50–60 km, with a proper lunch stop and time to visit villages. Trained riders can ask for longer routes.
Do I need to be a trained cyclist?
No. The Salento is mostly flat and the routes use quiet roads. I adapt distance and stops to your level, and e-bikes are available for anyone who wants extra help.
Is the bike included in the price?
Yes. The price includes a Trek road, gravel or city bike in your size with helmet, lights, lock, frame bag, phone holder, pump, repair kit and spare tube, plus the route, GPX, roadbook, briefing and phone support. E-bikes (Rock Rider or Trek) have a surcharge of €10 per person.
Can we do it with just two of us, or alone?
Yes. A half day is €150 for one person and €100 per person for two; from three people it's €50 per person. A full day is €250 for one, €200 per person for two and €150 per person from three.
Where do we pick up the bikes?
In Lecce (Via Francesco Ribezzo 2D), San Foca (Via D'Annunzio 13) or Calimera (Via Roma 163), free of charge. If you'd rather start from your hotel, masseria or another town, I bring the bikes to you and collect them at the end of the tour: delivery and collection are charged by distance, each way, and I quote them when we plan the ride. You can also return the bikes somewhere else.
Can we ride part of the Via Francigena?
Yes. The last stages, Lecce to Otranto and Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca, are about 45–50 km each, one stage per day, and I have the GPX for both. Gravel or e-bike recommended.
Is it suitable for families with children?
Yes. I have children's bikes for ages 6–9 and 9–12 and a child seat for the e-bikes, and I design short routes with beach, playground and ice-cream stops.
What if I get a flat tyre or a mechanical problem?
Every bike carries a pump, a repair kit and a spare tube, and the gravel bikes are tubeless, so punctures are rare. If you can't fix it, call me: I'm reachable for the whole day and we sort it out together.
What happens if it rains?
We move the tour to another day or cancel it free of charge. I follow the forecast and let you know the evening before.
What language is the briefing in?
English, Italian or Spanish, as you prefer. I can also get by in French.
How do I book and pay?
Write on WhatsApp or by email with your date, number of people and what you'd like to see. I'll send a route proposal and confirm. There is no online payment and no deposit: you pay at pickup. Extras such as a boat trip or a tasting are booked and paid directly with the provider; I'll put you in touch.
Do you only cover Salento?
Salento is home, but I also have routes in the Valle d'Itria and around Matera, and one-way rentals across Puglia. Tell me where you're staying.
Can you organise multi-day tours?
Yes. Two or more days, one route per day, the bike for the whole trip, pickup in one place and return in another if you like. You book your own accommodation; I'll tell you which places are bike-friendly and on the route. Ask for a quote.
Do I need my own GPS device?
No. The GPX works on any smartphone with a free app such as Komoot or Ride with GPS, and every bike has a phone holder. If you have a Garmin or Wahoo, I'll load the route on it at pickup.
