In a few kilometers you will reach Baia Verde, known for its fine, golden sand and clear waters. Here you can stop for a dip, sunbathe, or enjoy an aperitif at seaside kiosks. In high season, Baia Verde is bustling with music, young people, and water sports, but it also offers quieter areas for those seeking relaxation.
Up to Punta della Suina, between pine forest and sea
As we resume cycling along the coast, the landscape becomes gradually more natural. Your journey begins in one of Salento’s most charming towns, Gallipoli, nicknamed the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea.” Here, before you climb into the saddle, we suggest you lose yourself in the narrow streets of the historic center, a maze of ancient alleys that suddenly open onto surprising sea views. 
The historic center of Gallipoli stands on an island connected to the mainland by a 17th-century bridge. Stroll among typical white houses, richly decorated Baroque churches (such as the Cathedral of St. Agatha), and noble palaces that tell of the city’s glorious seafaring past.
The San Domenico bastion is one of the most spectacular vantage points: from here you can see the sea encompassing the whole island, with fishermen’s boats coming and going from the harbor.
Stop for a typical breakfast in one of the downtown cafes, enjoying a hot pasticciotta or rustico leccese, accompanied by coffee on the rocks with almond milk. A visit to the fish market, amid lively voices and scents of the sea, is an authentic taste of daily life in Gallipoli. 
The Galilei waterfront, from which the bike route starts, is perfect for starting cycling with your eyes already on the horizon.
Between Gallipoli and Baia Verde – Nature and glimpses of the sea
As you leave the urban center, the road begins to follow the coast. In a few minutes you find yourself immersed in a completely different landscape, where nature takes over. The roadway is lined with dry stone walls, centuries-old olive trees and the fragrant Mediterranean scrub, made up of myrtle, rosemary, lentisk and juniper. 
The sea, constantly on your right, opens up in a sequence of spectacular vistas. Depending on the time of day and the angle of the sun, the color of the water changes from turquoise to deep blue, creating breathtaking contrasts of light and reflections.
During spring, the roadsides are filled with poppies, daisies, and wildflowers, while in summer the landscape takes on golden hues and the song of cicadas accompanies your passage.
With a little care, you may also spot migratory birds, such as grey herons or egrets, in the wetter coastal stretches, especially early in the morning.
Baia Verde – The sea that enchants
