A Puglia bike experience across the whole region
Puglia is long: the trulli of the Valle d'Itria are more than 100 km north of Lecce, and the tip of Salento is further south still. Most visitors stay in one area, so this page is about riding where you are, not only around Lecce. We are SalentoBike, a bike rental based in Lecce: we prepare a Trek road, gravel or e-bike for your size, hand over GPX routes and stay reachable by phone. Every ride is self-guided; we do not run guided tours. If you want a licensed guide for a town visit, that is booked separately with a qualified third party.
Three landscapes, three kinds of riding
Valle d'Itria: trulli, white roads and gentle hills
Locorotondo, Alberobello and Martina Franca sit on a loop of about 31 km on quiet secondary roads through olive groves and vineyards. The terrain is rolling rather than flat (about 250 m of climbing on that loop, a routing estimate), so an e-bike is a sensible choice on hot days. For the unpaved section of the Ciclovia dell'Acquedotto Pugliese take the Trek Checkpoint ALR gravel bike. Details: bike rental in the Valle d'Itria and bike rental in Alberobello.
The Adriatic coast: Polignano a Mare, Monopoli and Ostuni
Between Polignano a Mare and Monopoli the coves are close enough to ride between rather than drive. Further south, many guests stay in masserie in the countryside around Ostuni, where a delivered bike is often the only practical way to ride. See bike rental in Polignano a Mare and bike rental in Ostuni.
Salento: flat roads and two seas
Around Lecce the roads are flat and quiet: a 20.5 km ride to the coast at San Cataldo, 22 km along the Adriatic from San Foca to Otranto, or the 52.6 km Litoranea from Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca for a long day. For day rides with a planned route see self-guided bike tours in Salento; for several days in a row see Puglia bike tours.

FAQ
- Which parts of Puglia can I ride with a SalentoBike rental?
- All of them. The bike starts from our depots in Lecce, San Foca or Calimera, or we deliver it to your accommodation in the Valle d'Itria, on the Adriatic coast or anywhere else in Puglia. Routes for each area are sent as GPX files.
- Can you deliver a bike to the Valle d'Itria or to Polignano a Mare?
- Yes. Delivery is priced on the distance from Lecce: about 104 km to Locorotondo and 116 km to Polignano a Mare. Tell us your address and dates and we confirm the cost before you book.
- Is the Valle d'Itria hilly for cycling?
- It is rolling rather than steep. The Locorotondo, Alberobello and Martina Franca loop is about 31 km with roughly 250 m of climbing in short rises. Road and gravel bikes both work; an e-bike makes it easier on hot days.
- Which bike suits the Ciclovia dell'Acquedotto Pugliese?
- The Trek Checkpoint ALR gravel bike, with 40-42 mm tubeless tyres. The Trek Domane AL road bike is quicker on asphalt but not suited to the unpaved section.
- Can I add a local guide to my ride?
- We do not run guided tours: every ride is self-guided, with GPX routes and phone support from us. If you want a licensed guide for a town or a site, it is booked separately with a qualified third party.
